Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said during a briefing that Moscow is negotiating with African countries on the organisation of delivery of Russian cargoes, including grain. Russia understands the needs of African countries. Free food deliveries after the grain deal is terminated will be fully fulfilled.

He emphasised that working out new routes is largely a logistical and technical issue.

“It is already being worked out,” Vershinin stated.

Russia intends to do everything to ensure that African countries do not feel the consequences of the termination of the grain deal.

“The countries in need, in the course of contacts with us and during the upcoming Russia-Africa summit, will naturally receive the necessary assurances regarding their needs for agricultural products, primarily grain,” he said.

Continued joint work on the grain deal, he said, is possible only if Russia’s legal requirements are fulfilled.

“Fulfil these conditions, they are simple – five conditions, and the continuation of joint work [on the grain deal] is possible. But only according to the result,” Vershinin specified.
